Hello..
I have designed G+1 Rest house.. I have encountered silt sand soil on site . I dont want to change size of the footings. Adding hardcore layer before pad footing will it help.?

Yes, adding a stone layer (wider than the spread footing!) below the footing can spread the foundation load over a larger area before it reaches the silty sand. However, there are two reasons I usually don't use this method and increase the size of the footing instead.

Check that the cost of additional excavation and stone is less than the cost of larger footings.

Also, if you are in an area with a shallow groundwater table or heavy rain, water can carry the fine sand and silt into the voids of your stone layer. This will cause settlement and (often) cracking in your building.
