hello;
What is the different between "decanter centrifuge" and ordinary "nozzle-disc centrifuge" ? both are for solid-liquid separation .
Thanks for all replies
"Decanter" or "scroll" or "pusher" centrifuges spin on a horizontal axis, have a spinning cylinder with a conical end and a flat end with "weir" holes for clarified liquid discharge; and an internal augur (scroll) spinning at a slightly different speed to push solids out the conical end. It's like having a dredge pulling solids out of a settling pond.
Decanter centrifuges handle more solids than the "nozzle-disc" centrifuge but the "nozzle-disc" machines have a greater removal of finer particles due to a greater area.
The "nozzle-disc" centrifuge typically spins on a vertical axis. The conical discs are like having an inclined (or lamella) settler subjected to a high gravity. Solids (with a little more liquid) are ejected through nozzles in the outer solid bowl. There are also "split-bowl" machines having upper and lower bowl sections that can be periodically and momentarily separated to eject accumulated solids.
Bird Machine builds a lot of the Decanter type; see cutaways at
