Help, Domestic water booster pump system 1

34 story residential pump package contains 3 goulds 3-stage 20HP pumps, cla-vals, etc. The stainless steel impellers disintegrated 3 months after install. Could be debris in water? or something else... Not cavitation as the suction pressure is constant and controls would shut pumps down if flow was reduced. Any ideas??

Was the system cleaned with TSP and not flushed properly?

SS also doesn't like the following
Sodium Hydroxide
Sodium Hypochlorite
Sodium Biscarbonate
Sodium Bisulphate
Sodium Bisulphite
Sodium Borate
Sodium Bromide
Sodium Chlorate
Sodium Fluoride so if any thing here was used as a cleaning solution and wasn't throughly flushed it could be your problem ..ck the chemistry of the water.

Since this is domestic water (drinking and bathing, etc.) i would think that people would have complained about water quality. How much of the substances you mentioned is needed to affect the SS. If so, wouldn't it be washed away into the system and out through sinks, tubs, toilets, etc.??

Mechanical contact with something....
Chemical (as Imok commented)........
Manufacturing flaws (loose impellors,
housing imperfections)
Improper installation.....
Coupling misalignment.....


Did the impellers appear to have
been chemically, mechanically or
thermodynamically damaged ?
