Help needed: COC and DOC - requirements, templates

Hello.
These documents keep confusing me:
Certificate of conformity, certificate of compliance
Declaration of conformity, declaration of complianse

Are conformity and conformance the same in this context?

Sometimes I have to issue COC for a hydraulic-filter, other times a pressure vessel, a valve or an assembly done here.
We have a template for the COC that where made a long time ago.
I have found that we need to update this, and to make sure it is correct I have been trying to find requirements and templates.

I have googled a lot, but I can not find any clear requirements telling me if there is a standard for the COC.

The DOC I find requirements for in the Directive 97/23/EC - PED, but not any for the COC.
Google tells me there is a lot of confussion, and a lot of different ways to issue a COC...

Do you know if there are requirements for the COC? Grateful for links.

I have found mentioned that DOC is the declaration the manufacturer issues.
COC is just a certificate the supplier issues to just say "I do belive this is produced according to some standards..."
Is this correct?

They are all just meaningless phrases unless you qualify them along the line of "Certificate of Conformance as defined in some specific standard".

But basically yes, they all mean the same thing, which is a piece of paper stating "I certify that this thing meets this set of requirements".

I agree, the basic meaning is all the same. But as soon as you refer to a specific standard like PED you must check what this standard require, a Certificate of Compliance, a Certificate of Conformity or whatever. A "declaration of complianse" is for sure wrong

So if a COC, that just state something like "this is as far as we know produced in accordance to aggreement and order bla bla", and does not refer to a standard is meaningless and worth nada?

And if it refers to i.e. Directive 97/23/EC - PED then I should make sure that I have checked what the standard require?

I certify that this this IS what you ordered. It IS in full compliance with your drawing. It IS in full compliance with all referenced standards.

Back in the day, when people were competent and took pride in their work, and companies took responsibility for, and stood behind their products, if you had a part and a certificate of compliance then you knew you had a good part, and you didn't didn't need to check it.

Now all a COC is good for is to hand to the lawyers when you sue a supplier for giving you crap.

Certificates of compliance are worth nada because they are written and signed by people who have no clue.

I was, and partially still is, one of those who have no clue.....
And this is one of the reasons I was looking for some templates and requirements.

Good for you for taking that the right way and trying to gain a better understanding.

As you seem to have already found, there is no shortage of sample and example templates available on the web. This one

It's not bad. Seems to hit on the important things. Documentation, materials, manufacturing process, quality control and testing. I would like to see it have a place to explicitly list the relevant documents and drawings.

I suggest that you start by examining the many examples found on the web. Ask yourself why each thing that is being attested to is there. Then cherry pick from the best of the best to make your own.
