Help Needed, Underground Spring

Hello everyone,

I appreciate you taking the time to review our current challenge. We have two areas at the front of our lot that have historically remained wet over the years. After conducting soil tests, helical piers with spread footings were recommended.

A few weeks ago, we began grading away from the problem area, but we quickly noticed that the graded section would become moist and eventually fully saturated each day. Concerned about the ongoing moisture, we had our soil engineer revisit the site. He advised creating a trench toward the rear of the lot to help dry out the pad area. Additionally, he suggested installing a Geotech fabric and placing 1–3 feet of #57 or larger stone in the center. My helical pier contractor also confirmed that #57 stone would be suitable around the footing area.

However, after a few heavy rainstorms, it became clear that the drainage from the spring was more than we could handle, and I believe the situation has surpassed the skill level of my grader. I have since reached out to a few engineers for input on capturing and redirecting the spring water to the back of the lot.

One major challenge we’re facing is the lack of sufficient elevation drop from the front to the back, making a traditional French drain impractical. I’ve sketched out some possible solutions and would greatly appreciate any insights or recommendations from this community on the best approach to tackle this issue.

Looking forward to your feedback. Thank you!

is there a water main in the berm of the road that is possibly leaking, or blocked/full stormwater pipes? That would be a nice outcome

Looks to me like you really need a well point dewatering line at the front edge. Your hole in the ground seems to be acting like the local pond / soakaway to me.

Or dig your French drain and then just pump it away to the back of the lot

Have you got borehole data to show what layers you have / had there?
