Help on Deform part and Deform component 1

I am new to NX2 and need some help on defoming a part or maybe their is another way to accomplish assembly features without modifying the detail part.
What I am trying to accomplish is modify a part feature in the assembly without modifying the operations or features in the detail part. An example is we have pilot holes in the detail part to be fabricated. In the next assembly those pilot holes are used to match drill the fab part to the mounting part resulting in a hole used to assemble the part together with a .250 bolt for example.
I was able to make the deform part successfully but when I tried to deform component the dialog box wanted me to resolve the reference features. Maybe I really am not creating the deform part correctly.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jerry,

I think that you need to use the Wave Geometry option to create Assembly holes or feature. I'll try to describe the method quickly but try searching this Forum using the keyword search and wave as search string

If your company does not have wave enabled you need to have your ug_english/metric.def file modified to enable the following option with line shown below
Assemblies_AllowInterPart: yes

There are several options for wave linking you can create the holes at Part level without modifying your Fab part by assembling it into a new part and aligning the fixed datums.
Then you need to use the Wave option found on the Assemblies toolbar to create a Linked Body which will put an exact linked copy of your Fab part at the Part level so that you can perform feature operations like Holes on the part without affecting the part you are cutting.

If you have a small assembly or sub assembly you can create another Assembly and Wave each component of the assembly into the new assembly on a separate Layer so that you can create cuts on all the components from the assembly feature level.

It's actually a good method for Assembly Cut features but it takes a little time to adjust to.
