Hello,

I`m from a non english speaking country and a can understand almost everything about steel structures texts, that is my practicing field, but there are some nomenclature related do roof structures(Maybe is more related do stability systems) that i have some difficulty to understand. Here are some of the words:
Collector beam, drag beam, chord. If someone could suggest some material where i could study these topics, i'd really appreciate.

Thanks.

These are diaphragm components. They're in wood, steel, or concrete buildings. We typically think and talk about them in relation to wood or steel because they're a bigger deal there.

Collectors, drag beams, and drag struts are the same thing. They're beam that are parallel to the lateral force. They collect the diaphragm shear and transmit it to vertical components such as shear walls. They typically must resist combined bending and axial loads.

Chords: Think of these as the "flanges" of the diaphragm. They're transverse to the lateral load and provide the diaphragm flexural strength. Like collectors, they typically must resist combined bending and axial loads.

There are some good diagrams at the following:

Thanks. This NEHRP material is very good. Will help me understand the issue.
