Hi,

We are in need of designing an Oscillating Shaft Structure for one of our product.
The shaft is loaded at several points & hinged at the centre & can oscillate in the top plane in +/-5 Degree.
So including the shaft weight, 1000kgf axial(downward) force will be acting on the pivot shaft where we are going to use the bearing as in the attached picture below:-

There are two choices:-
1. Use an Angular Contact Bearing for carrying the axial load & another Deep Grove Ball Bearing for facilitating easy tilting. (However we hear some unsuitability of using rolling bearing for oscillating applications).
2. Use Plain Bearings (self lubricating bearings from Schaeffler, GGB, etc.)where a thrust washer will carry the axial load & a Cylindrical Bush Gearing will help the shaft to tilt easy.

I am attaching a diagram that resembles the application & please help me on this design as I am not very familiar with the Oscillating Applications:-

Thank you in advance,

Needle type bearings should be well suited for this application. It only takes a few degrees of motion to keep things lubricated.

"self lubricating bearings from Schaeffler, GGB"

Some self lubricating bearings/bushing require multiple full rotations to distribute and transfer the dry lube stuff to the shaft.

Have you thought about how much torque is needed and available to cause the oscillation, and how much friction etc would interfere with your process ?

How are you going to rotate the load, i.e., by hand, with an actuator, etc? The plain bearings will have more friction - can you live with that? IGUS makes a nice mounted slewing ring bearing - - they have even sent me a sample on a project. The bearing was a good value, but we ended up with a rolling element slewing ring bearing because the friction in the plain bearing was too high - your small oscillation angle will add a little more difficulty to successful bearing selection.

slewing bearing size packing should not be packed in containers. it is usually used for bulk.
