Help with EPA TANKS Software

Dear all,

I am using TANKS EPA software to estimate the emissions of a storage tank farm but I am facing two problems I don't know how to handle.
- I am using internal floating roof tanks with nitrogen blanketing in the space between the floating cover and the fixed roof. How does it affect the volatile emissions of the tank instead of using open vents?
- In addition, TANKS is limited to vents pressure setting not exceeding 1 psig. In some cases, we would like to know the effect of increasing the setting pressure in the emissions. How can I do it?

I am looking for any help or suggestions regarding documentation, technical papers, books or other software which let me simulate those scenarios.

Thank you.

As a general rule EPA does not accept nitrogen blanketing as a method of vapor control therefore I would probably discount it altogether. I have run this across RTP several times in the past and have not gotten very far.
As far as increasing the pressure goes, I can't help you. However, try to get in touch with Rob Ferry of the TGB partnership ( He is THE MAN when it comes to estimating storage tank emissions. Unfortunately, this also means he is difficult to get on the phone.

Good luck,

A nitrogen blanket does not affect the evaporation rate of the stored liquid. It simply makes the mixture not burnable. I may have misunderstood your second question but in terms of replacing the IFR vents with a pressure vent, Tanks software recognizes an IFR tank or a fixed roof tank, not an IFR inside a fixed roof tank. Rob is indeed a prime source of information on this topic. Good luck and please post the final answers here for us to read!!
