I'm doing a schoolproject where I'm trying to replace a steel construction with a plastic one.
Unfortunatly we don't have any teachers who is very good at Abaqus, and I find it way too hard to understand everything on my own.
I now need to place the material on my construction and all information I have on the material is attached in a datasheet (
Is it possible to "make" this material in abaqus? or can I find it in a material database perhaps? Appreciate all help!

Hi,

Yes should not be a problem, but you need to consider what you are trying to model (e.g. stresses), are you looking at a simplistic model (e.g. linear or non-linear)? If your not too experienced using abaqus have you considered using the analysis packages in piece of CAD software?

Hope that helps

In terms of doing this on abaqus, you can define a material with all its properties under...

- Model
- Materials

I have done some FEA in Catia, but I have very high loads so the module in catia isn't very trustworthy. Catia can't do non-linear calculations at all unfortunatly. I need to calculate with temperatures between -60 and +50 degrees celsius, and also I need to apply a preload.

School work questions aren't answered on this site, but as a help you should say '...teachers who ARE very good at ...' rather than '...teachers who IS very good at ...'. Hope that helps.

Hoping to say Tata

I have tried to edit the material properties, but I can't quite figure out what values in the data sheet that goes where. Also the young's modulus and the tensile strength at break is time dependent, and I can't find where to put that values.

I'm doing the school work in a cooperation with two different business', so I might aswell call it work. Regarding my English skills, I'll try to do my best.

I looks like you have a modulus at room temp, thermal expansion, and some heat deflection temperatures. Depending on your desired results I would input E and CTE and apply the thermal loadings and compare the stresses to the heat deflection temperatures or other stress values in the data. Remember to consider all the assumptions such as a uniform E with temp.

Remember to use the manuals and tutorials extensively because they are truly top notch.

I have always taken the policy on school work to be homework problems or lab reports. Not Graduate research or work for companies. In the future just don't say the word school.

Welcome to the wonderful world of FEA and Abaqus!

I hope this helps.

yes it can. check elfini structural solver or sth like that in the license manager or whatever it is.
