I am attempting to join small diameter AlBeMet (aluminum beryllium alloy) and sapphire tubing.
Brazing in dry hydrogen with AuGe has been met with limited success and relatively weak joints.
Any process suggestions or reference materials would be appreciated.

Wow, this is quite a specialized area, one that I doubt will elicit much of a response from us lowly Eng-Tips folks. My suggestion for a reference on joining methods is ASM HANDBOOK Volume 6 Welding, Brazing, and Soldering from ASM International ( This book has information on some esoteric processes, so you may find something useful. Other places to consult would be TWI in the UK ( and EWI in the US ( they are the world's foremost experts that don't work for governtment labs, etc.

Thanks for the ideas!
