Hi all,

I'm using a steel angle with epoxy bolts to connect a composite floor diaphragm to a CMU shear wall. Can I use the spot welds (weld the deck to the angle) to transfer the diaphragm shear into the steel angle ? Or I should use headed studs instead?

That's how it's often done... also screw and PAFs depending on the environment and coating systems.

Things to consider are min/max thickness of connected elements. PDFs have published atrengths for different connected materials. Don't forget there's both a min and max thickness for most PDFs Published values.
 
For composite metal deck slabs, isn't shear stud more beneficial?
 
for transferring the shear from the composite slab to the beam, most certainly... I was just thinking of attaching the deck to the angle...

I think the shear studs can effectively engage the concrete slab so they can transfer more diaphragm shear into the angle. Meanwhile the arc spot welds only attach the deck to the supporting angle so their ability to transfer diaphragm shear is limited by the metal deck alone. So I think studs are needed. Just like we would use the studs for collector beams.
