Hi everyone,
I have two lines connected to each other transfering liquid, as shown below.
I wonder which mecahnical component should add bwtween them them so if a pull force exerted (arount 400 newton) it will disconnect "peacefully" and i should be able to re-connect them easily.
What do you suggest?
Thank you.

You probably cannot split that swivel. You need to add the release somewhere else in the hose.

Try searching for "breakaway couplings"

But many are your last line of defence not your first one.

This looks like a fuel dispenser??

This didn't take long to find

"LittleInch", great solution. Why would breakaway couplings be my last defence not the first?

likely because you don't want them "breaking away" at the wrong time.

The intention of a system should be to remain connected unless there is a fault.

Break away couplings often need excess force to Operate resulting In shock loading.

What is this anyway?

That picture looks like a gas station handle, so I assume that is just an example of the fittings.

Breakaway couplings are what you are looking for. Your tag says aerospace, in which there are a few cases for these types of fittings. But they are not usually off-the-shelf in my experience. The only ones I've been around were all developed, built, and tested rigorously in house. There are other things to consider such as the acceptable tolerance of load variation, acceptable leak rates, what they will smash into when they flop down, etc.

check out canted coil springs. They are common in breakaway applications like gas pump hose connections. This company has helped me design breakaway connections for a few applications
