Does anyone know where I can get a list of the "Hidden" config.pro settings and the options for those settings?

In the Utilities section.

"Wildfires are dangerous, hard to control, and economically catastrophic."
"Fixed in the next release" should replace "Product First" as the PTC slogan.

Hello,

In Wildfire, select TOOLS --> OPTIONS, press the FIND button and enter *, all options appear, select one, in the SET VALUE drop down box will be the options.

Hope this helps.

maybe only a drafter
but the best user at this company!

I know where to find the options in pro and on web. What I need are the options for the "hidden" config.pro settings.

example. sketcher_3d_drag set to "no" Where do I find the options "yes" or "no" I hope makes it a little clearer.

onlyadrafter,

That will NOT find hidden options.

When I worked at PTC I liked to fool around with the hidden options and actually had to resolve some bugs.

I think that PTC chooses to hide the new features that are being worked on so that they will not get tons of calls about bugs. As opposed to Catia where new tools are used and not hidden and cause problems later on.

The direct link to Olaf Corten's config search that Ben mentioned is
http://www.proesite.com/newframe.htm?/UTIL/view_config.html

This may be easier than clicking through links if you have not previously used the site.

Okay, maybe I'm still not clear on what I'm looking for. I need the VALUES for the "hidden" config.pro options. I thought certainly I gave enough information as to what I'm looking for. Do you guys get points for just posting a response? Do the responses have to be accurate(only a drafter)? I guess not. This website loses some credibility when I read the responses I'm getting.

Look in the <loadpoint>/text directory for the config.cdb file. This is the file that contains all config options as well as their values

UG,

What you are asking for is something PTC will not publish. If you want to know the VALUES for the hidden configs you first have to know what hidden configs you are looking for. The config.cdb file will give you ALL available config.pro options, including the hiddens.

You can determine what the Hidden configs are by comparing those options which come up in the configuration editor vs. those in the config.cdb file. If it is not available in the config options dropdown list, then it is a hidden config. You will have to TYPE in the config option and then enter the value.

Best I can do and I've been doing it for over 10 years.

mr. pilot,

I understand the reasons for the hidden config options and completely agree that they should not be used in day to day operations. However, sometimes you need to use them. In certain cases that's why they exist. I'm aware of how to search for config options and know the only way to use a hidden option is to type in the option and assign a value. Also, the config.cdb file does NOT show all the hidden config options. I didn't perform a search for all hidden config options but the few hidden config options I do know were not in the config.cdb file. But that's not important. All I was looking for was a list of the "hidden" config.pro options and their respective values. I expected to not have an easy time finding such a list. What I didn't expect was having to ask the same question 3 times. I thought technical people used the other side of the brain. I guess next time I'll just ask for the winning Texas lotto numbers.

Back a few versions ago I actually documented all of the hidden configs and posted them to the PTC/User system admin exploder list. Before I did the actual post I asked the group list if people wanted them. Of course they did so I posted. About 10 minutes after I did I got a call from PTC directly saying I should not have done that. They gave numerous reasons and did not want them public.

BTW, If the hidden options don't show up in the config.cdb file then they have changed the funcationality of that file. My past experience showed hiddens were in there.

I don't live in Texas so I can help with the Lotto numbers but if you would like me to generate some random numbers, that I can do.

UglyJoe,

It seems you have been given some information. If it's not what you want then sounds like you need to go off and do some testing of your own then report back to us with the results.

I also use to work for PTC back in the day and like MJCole we ran tests using the hidden config options but truthfully they're hidden for a reason.

Now maybe if you have a reason for asking.....such that you are trying to do something or you stumbled across something abnormal. Then we as a user community might find some time to do some testing along with you but a smart ars attitude like you have shown the Pro/E world here will get you zero results.

Best Regards,

Heckler

What the Heck, Heckler? Don't be so sensitive. I think you're confusing my frustration with being a "smart ars." I understand everyone is trying to help…..I guess. I run across abnormalities with pro virtually every day. I think its safe to say most pro users do as well. As for "testing" and getting back with you scrubs with my results…..give me a budget and I'm sure I won't disappoint. I guess I'm on the black list now huh?

Mr. Pilot,
I've heard that ptc does not want those config options out there for the general users. The program has a tendency to lose functionality and to not work properly when some of the options are used. By the way our version of wildfire works, I would have thought we were using every known hidden config option known to man. But that's not the case. I agree with you on the config.cdb file. I remember in the past it did contain at least every hidden option I was trying to find. But like everything else with pro, apparently that has changed. Oh well. By the way, thanks for the offer regarding the numbers. I think I'll just stab in the dark like some of the "MVP's."
