Hidden Objects (Catia V5R21) - Show with Hover in Model Tree

I come from a Pro-E background, and within Pro-E, there is the ability to hover over a hidden part in the model tree, and the wireframe of the hidden part will be visible in the assembly.

In Catia, this is not the case.

Is there an option to force this behavior in Catia?

Thanks in advance...

I am not quite sure what you mean. Try hovering your mouse over some geometry in your session. Press a Left, Up, Down, or Right arrow on the keyboard. Is this something similar to what you are asking about?

Ability to select things hidden behind your geometry?

Sorry if i'm not understanding your question.

Thanks UnspokenOwl for the reply.

I don't mean I can't see other parts that hare hidden behind other parts in an assembly...I am talking about the hide/show command, and how to find parts that are hidden (not shown) in the assembly.

My problem is this. If I have hidden an object in the assembly from the model-tree using the hide/show command (say an assembly with many parts), it is difficult to find that part again without unhiding ALL parts.

I'd like to be able to hover over the part that is hidden in the model-tree and see where they are (would be) if they were not hidden in the assembly.

Pro-E does this by showing a wire-frame of the hidden part where it exists in the assembly while the mouse is hovering over the part name in the model-tree.

Catia does this for parts that are NOT hidden by highlighting the part while hovering. I thought there MUST be an option to highlight the hidden parts, too.

Any ideas?...or is this not possible?

Regards...

Hi,

With a macro you can find the hidden parts and show them all (or you can get a list of those hidden parts and take an action according to your needs).

Anyway, this could be a nice enhancement in CATIA, as far as I know this is not existing now.

That would be a nice enhancement to CATIA, one I could have used yesterday on the assembly I'm workin on.

I had to keep Swapping Visible Space to find hidden and shown parts in my assembly.

Ahh ok I understand. I have not seen an option to do that. Is there a specific reason why you have so many parts of your assembly in no/show that you must continually locate them? Is this a value added thing?

I normally have all my parts shown, but only have the documents loaded for the ones i'm working on. All others I keep in visualization mode to keep my system memory & the background contruction geometry unloaded to not clutter up my no/show.

Just curious why this is something value added other than just a nice visual capability. I do like the sound of a function like that, but more from a cosmetic standpoint.

This isn't exactly what you're looking for, but if you right click on the hidden part in the tree you can choose "Reframe on". This will zoom in on the hidden part, though you will still have to unhide it to see it.

Also it might help to assign keyboard shortcuts for "show/hide" and "swap visible space". Respectively I've got F2 and F3 assigned to those including F4 for hiding the tree. (CTRL-SHIFT-Z for "fit all in")

In the same way, if you right-click on geometry in the graphic window and choose "center graph" the tree will expand and center to the item you're looking for.

Thanks everyone for the info...

I was hoping there was an option that I didn't have selected, but no.

However, I will use your suggestions to help me navigate through the model tree.
