Dear All,

I've a problem. The supplier has an absolute NPT fitting for the port and now they giving me new spec for a Pall high pressure filter with new port option which is 1 1/2” SAE J514 straight thread (where we requested for Flanged SAE J518c-code 62 - see attachment).

Our system pressure is 3000 psi, but when i checked the SAE J514, it is only rated to 2000 psi.
I just wonder if it is ok? I've asked Pall but they are very slow. I'm also asking from different supplier now for alternative.

Please advice.

SAE J514 is the hydraulic tube fitting specification which spans SAE-ORB and pipe fittings. Assuming the port on the filter could possibly be an SAE J1926-1 straight thread o-ring port since they specifically call out straight thread and not pipe thread. Since your port size is 1-1/2 inches this equates to a dash 24 fitting size. Looking in a Parker fitting catalog with an 24 F5OX straight thread connector 37deg flare to SAE-ORB shows a dynamic pressure rating of 3000 psi.
Viewing your catalog information I see that the port is spot faced which is typical of an SAE J1926-1 port, though this may not be the case and they are using a stock photo of the filter.
Verify with the filter supplier if it is an SAE J1926-1 port or an NPTF-Dryseal American Standard Taper Pipe SAE J476 port. This will then allow you to determine the allowable pressure at the port. From this you can then look in a hydraulic fitting catalog and determine the allowable pressure on the fitting and port.
