I need to get some parts ground 0.350" long down to 0.009" dia. at the very tip. CNC type profile and Rc=60-62. Starts with a die pin at diameter and the o.d. profile is on the last 0.150" of length. Do I cut then harden? Getting no takers.

On all our pins of similar description that we profile grind in house for use in our spinnerette manufacturing process we grind all materials in the hardened condition. We start with what we call points and then grind the pointed end to what ever profile we need.
It is much easier to start with a pointed pin than grind to a point. This because the machines that make points can make various points with no problems at a very low costs.

It would appear that the overall length might be the hang up in getting quotes though someone like National Jet may be able to help you within certain limitations. You might have to go longer and part to desired length.

From the Nijet website:
At National Jet, we manufacture spinnerette broaches in any size.

We can keep tolerances on these broaches within .0001", and can manufacture them in nearly any configuration that you design. We can make the broaches with a standard length of 7 times the diameter, and in most instances can make them 14 times (and higher) the diameter of the broach.

Another possibility is contact someone like Bagshaw. They made a lot points for us.

Thanks for the input! I'll look them up.
