HiVoltage Testing Station Setup Help 2

Hi!

First off, I am not an Engineer.

I am designing a small manufacturing cell producing 2kw BLAC power units.

I have purchased a GwInstek 4 in 1 Electrical Safety tester to perform Megger and AC HiPot tests.

The heart of the problem is that although I have read extensively on the subject of high voltage testing, I still do not feel comfortable using the machine and setting up a testing station.

Can anyone please point me towards a reliable source to help me program my machine, set-up a station, and help me determine my standards.

I am hoping I can find someone who is familiar with my testing gear and my process rather than generic training.

Well you've certainly posted this topic far and wide across multiple sites...

You will need a physical interlock system. You will need a commissioning plan + signoff. You will need some sort of regular safety checklist which checks that the interlock is still functioing correctly.
To be safe, contract an Electrical Engineer to sort this out for you. You are playing with potentially deadly voltages (well, not sure what the GwInstek goes to, but it's likely not pleasant) and you may be putting people at significant risk and yourself at liability if you don't set this up in a safe way.

I am setting up an electrical safety testing station on a manufacturing line, so yes, I am looking for an expert to help me do that.

My question is do you folks have any specific recommendations, not about process, but for reliable people who can help me.

I had one recommendation for a place called Byram Labs in NJ (we are in Allentown) and I am waiting to hear back from them. Does anyone know of any additional places.

One of the problems I am encountering is that beyond the obvious generic training companies that I have found online, I dont really even know the job title of the guy that would design such a station. Testing Engineer? Manufacturing Process Designer?

Ive talked to Electrical Engineers and I havent found one that could really tell me much beyond the test types needed and the standards to test to. That stuff was definitely important, but now I want to implement those testing regimes and I cannot do it safely or efficiently without proper guidence.

Any thoughts?

Hire a NETA test company to sort this out for you. NETA companies routinely test using AC HyPot and Megger. Most NETA companies will be able to visit your site, write up a plan, etc.

I looked at what the NETA does as well as Advanced Testing, and although its in the ball-park, I think these folks are all about high power transmission. I think it would be like talking to motor repair guys; close, but not the same.

I found a place called Byram Labs in NJ. These guys do "Type" testing which is pretty much what I want. We will see.
