Good day!

What is the characteristic of HOFR ( Heat & Oil resistant, Flame retardant) sheath cable ?

For my understanding, PVC sheath is also heat & oil resistant, flame retardant.
What makes PVC different with HOFR sheath ?
What kind of material use for HOFR sheath ?
What is international standard for HOFR sheath cable ?

Thanks for your response.

HOFR is usually a highly flexible and mechanically tough synthetic rubber sheath, akin in appearance to that found on welding cable.

I agree with ScottyUK.
PVC is not a homogeneous material. There are many-thousands-of blended material receipt including different type of resin, filling [usually chalk], lubricants and stabilizers and each receipt is destined to withstand a certain series of tests according to a certain standard requirements. Of course, in this way one could
produce a PVC type fire retardant[even fire resistant or self extinguishing],oil resistant or heat resistant . Also one can produce a PVC flexible insulation or sheath. Some cable industries can irradiate PVC and produce a kind of rubber [elastomer].
All these are produced according to different standards and for different purpose.
For welding-for instance-the BS stated a lot of tests that PVC is not able to withstand.
So, for HOFR cables other materials can stand against these tests as Ethylene Propylene Rubber [EPR] or Chlorosulfonated Polyethilene [Hypalon].
Up to now no PVC blend can do it.
