Is it possible to force SW2004 to add information to the hole callouts? For example, on tap drill sizes I would like it to automatically add either the Letter or Number size of the drill so it would read something like "0.257 (F)". Can that be done?

Thanks,
mncad

Bootm Line is to follow your company's policy, not the shop doing the work.

Heckler, you wrote:

"One of the Fundamental Rules - Description of manufacturing methods should be avoided. The geometry should be described without expicitly defining the method of manufacture."

This is a great point, and one I try to push at my company (where the belief is simply that the more information we put on the drawing, the better). We're often pushed to put information on drawings as specific as settings on the machine a part is created on. I believe that the drawings should convey the intent and all information necessary to ensure the manufacturer can accurately create the part--I don't care if he CNC's it or carves it in his basement, so long as the finished part is what we want.

But enough about me. My question--do you have (or have you seen) any information (in books, on the internet, etc.) that supports your point? I want to 'sell' this to my supervisors, & any supporting informtion would help me to do this. I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Lots of drafting specs, too many too list, that your company should be going by. If your company wants to save $$, remove the machine setup stuff off the drawings. One way to sell to your mngmt, get a quote from the machine shops with and without the extra stuff on the dwgs and show them.

ctopher,
We always have the same fight for using GD&T (ASME Y14.5M-1994). Putting GD&T on a drawing costs more, even though it should be less costly to manufacture.

Bradley,
Very good point. It really shouldn't cost more, but it's a lack people unstanding the ASME Y14.5 standard. People need to realize that your actually giving them more tolerance in the long run.

It depends on how GD&T is used, and how experienced the machine shop is with understanding it.
