Hollow Pipe Plugs

We have a vendor asking if we'll accept pipe plugs that are solid up until the threads but hollow where the threads are.
I looked at ASME B16.11 and it appears hollow plugs are not addressed.
Has anyone accepted these types of plugs and if so what justification was used to qualify them to B16.11?
I'm thinking that if the threaded area meets the thickness requirements of the same size pipe nipple, good for 6000# service, then they would be acceptable.
Anyone else experienced this type of request & if so how did you address it?

bayardwv, does you vendor state the plugs meet a recognized standard? You sure they are 6000#? Sounds like plumbing aisle stuff to me.

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

I agree, they're most likely not B16.11 plugs.

Our description clearly states we want Solid plugs supplied in accordance with B16.11, but the purchasing person who's in touch with the supplier appears to not comprehend this part of the requirement.

I explained to the purchasing person, it's really very simple if ASME B16.11 allows for partially hollow plugs, and they're stamping them accordingly, I want to know how they determined this is acceptable before I'll approve the change.

Just wandering if anyone else has had this problem.

FYI.....
I've found out that the plugs are coming from Bonney Forge. When I insisted we needed to see their documentation I received a memo form a Bonney Forge Product Engineering Manager dated March 17, 2017 which stated..."Bonney Forge 1" hex head plugs and bushings have been redesigned for better manufacturability and end product quality. The redesign complies with the requirements of industry standards ASME B16.11 & ASTM A961. Re-design criteria took the end wall thickness requirements of a class 6000 threaded cap (0.44 inches minimum) and applied further safety factors (nearly double) to insure no issues could arise."

I'd be OK with Bonney Forge
