I have a 250PFC hot rolled channel member that is cast into a large reinforced concrete (RC) wall . Thus a fixed member with a point load at the end. Does anyone know how to calculate the development length of the section into the rc wall?
thanks in advance

Development length for what - tension or bending?

If it is just tension then look up the values for plain bar and backcalculate the bond stress then apply this across the rectangular perimeter of the section (i.e. twice the width plus twice the height) which should definately be conservative.

If for bending then you also need to take bearing stress into account.

If it is just bending then treat it as a pure horizontal bearing stress problem like a pile embedded in rock. The allowable bearing stress in the concrete will dictate.

Look up a good precast concrete book and you will find a section on column pockets that will give you just what you need.
