Does anyone have any experience hot tapping cast iron used for natural gas distribution, probably less than 5 psig. Want to add 4" branch on 4" and above main. Most solutions involve welding fitting to split sleeve or repair clamp, attaching the sleeve/clamp, then hot tapping. Split sleeves are way expensive ($2000 +) Haven't found satisfactory solution at reasonable cost (say $300 for clamp/split sleeve). Are there methods of hot tap and thread?

I'm not sure about hot tap, but I know Advantica in the UK have been developing a grouted connection for use with cast iron and natural gas to avoid the hot welding, not sure of cost, can dig out contact name if it's any use.

The contacts at Advantica are:

Chris Hughes (christopher.hughes@advanticatech.com)

or
