I am looking for guidance on what needs to be done to qualify a welder on a production weld. this is an PED/ASME vessel, it would only be a fillet weld on an aluminum part (5083). any help would be appreciative.

Get the notified body to witness the welder to weld a piece acc. to ASME IX AND ISO 9606-2, get the piece tested (according to both standards), the NoBo will issue 2 certificates (ASME IX and ISO 9606-2).

Exactly that is what I would do, 2 weld certs. Also bear the same applies to the PQR.

You can make the certification according ASME SEC. IX and do the tests according to the both standards: ASME SEC. IX and EN ISO 9606-2.

The NoBo which will issue the certificate should state in the certificate that it complies with PED requirements.

Also, the period of validity of the certificate will be according EN ISO 9606-2.
