Hotel Guest Rooms Space Temperature 1

I am presently engaged in the HVAC design for a hotel encompassing numerous guest rooms. The directive I received stipulates that the air conditioning system should be designed to achieve a minimum space temperature of 20°C for the guest rooms. It's noteworthy to mention that to maintain such a temperature necessitates an elevated airflow rate. This, in turn, implies the deployment of higher capacity Fan Coil Units (FCUs), which inherently produce augmented airflow rates. A consequent concern arising from this is the potential increase in noise levels, a critical factor considering the guests' expectation of a tranquil environment in hotel rooms. I would greatly appreciate insights from anyone who has experience or expertise in this domain.

Random thoughts from a somewhat frequent hotel guest ...

Hotel rooms that I can afford, almost always have noisy HVAC via noisy window units, and seemingly have poor insulation to the outside walls and probably single-pane windows, so there's that.

Now ... Why is your heat loading so high so as to require "elevated" (how much?) airflow rate? Why does the HVAC have to work so hard in order to maintain 20 C (with what outdoor temperature)?

- Poor insulation due to cheap construction? If this is going to be a more expensive hotel, insulate the walls and use better windows!
- Excessive infiltration of outdoor air?

Hotel will be built in hot and humid climatic conditions in the middle east. As per the life style of peoples here, they always expect very low space temperature in summer and this is the main reason why we need to consider 20 C space air temperature in the guest rooms. Good quality insulation have been considered for the walls and roof. Thermal transmittance value of glass is also very low.

smaili1, you need to select larger FCUs. These will have airflows at lower fan speeds equivalent to smaller FCUs at high speed, but lesser the noise level.
If possible, consider pre-cooled air supply to the rooms via the AHU. this will reduce FCU sizes and noise issue

Thanks everybody for your valuable responses.

Smali1, it is customary to de-couple the Loads - Sensible & Latent. The Fan Coil will cater to just the Sensible Load and the Latent Load would be taken care of by a separate small duct which will bring in Treated Fresh air from a Central Air Handler. This way, you will be able to limit the size of the Fan Coil Unit. This is what we do in India.

Please consult the local government regulations. The normal design approach in the Middle East is merely 22 to 24c. Client, who suggested 20c?

The problem with the world is that intelligent people are full of doubts, while stupid ones are full of confidence.
