Just started using Solid Edge V12 but I've been a ProE user for 12 years before that...

I've created a part, put it into an assembly but I'd like to be able to modify the profile while in the assembly so I can see how the new part compares.

I did the tutorial with "create in place" and it opened the sketch with the assembly still visible. However someone (not me!) altered one of the settings somewhere and now when I create a part it opens in a new window.

Anyone know what I can do? 12 years on ProE and now it sucks being the new boy again...

Hi,

I think you're mixing two different things:

- create in place creates a *new* part within the context of
the active assembly

- to edit a profile of a part within the context of the active
assembly you have to select the part and then do an RMB
and select 'Edit' from the context menue (a double click on
the part should also do)
To return to the assembly chose File --> 'Close and Return'
and press ALT+U (otherwise the assembly may not update)

I think the second method is what you have in mind. For both
methods the assembly must have been saved once. In both cases
the mentioned 'Hide Previous Level will hide the assembly.

You're right, the 2nd method was what I wanted and I *think* I've got it to work as per your instructions, thank you!

What's RMB?
