How do I import a step file to lightweight ref set?

I've been on NX3 for what seems like forever. A few weeks ago they gave me NX5. It worked well. I was able to import a step file... which loaded as a lightweight reference set. I then did a file export to .jt, and my resulting file was about a meg. Everything was well!

Then last week they gave me an update patch. Now everything is broken. When I do a step import, it imports the entire part, but no lightweight ref sets. When I do a .jt export, the resulting file is 10 megs.

How do I get back to where I was a few weeks ago?

If you're going to say that a particular version has problems then you really need to say precisely what version you are using. If you're unsure try Help>About NX>System Information. For example in NX-5 I have 5.0.6.3. If in addition you have some site specific patches you may need to contact GTAC or your local representative.

However how it should work it that you import the STEP file and then hopefully you have a solid body. Then when you save the file for the first time the system will update two reference sets called MODEL and FACET. This is the out of the box default naming default setup for NX-5 if you have only ever done this in NX-3 before either check your customer defaults and site settings or have your administrator ensure that they're the same as you had in NX-3.

Now if you import a STEP file you always get sheets and solids. I don't quite understand how you would be able to view lightweight or faceted models other than by using a reference set in the context of an assembly. Had you imported from JT or STL files then I might expect different results.

I would say that if you still have NX-3 installed then try importing your STEP data into NX-3 and outputting the JT file. Unless you're telling us that it was the SAME file then you could be mistaken about some difference in the two files' contents.

I don't think it's a version specific problem... but just so you know, I'm now on version 5.0.4.1.

I think GM changed something in one of the config files, or the customer defaults file.

Now when I import a step file, I get a solid body displayed.

Several weeks ago, before they gave us an update, when I would import a step file, it would immediately display a lightweight reference set. (Notice that I DID NOT have to save the assembly, and reload it.) I am importing the step file into an assembly file.

I already have the customer defaults set, for the reference set names MODEL and FACET. But even after I save the asm, and reload it, it does not load a lightweight ref set. It loads an empty ref. set.

I have the asm->load_options set in this order:
use lightweight
empty
etc...

So why is it not creating a lightweight ref set, either upon import, or upon saving?

Never mind, I figured it out. I was importing the step file in a directory where the UG files existed already, and the UG files were not being overwritten. The original UG files did not have ref sets in them.

After deleting the UG files, making sure the customer defaults were set correctly (ref set name=FACET), and making sure the asm load options were set correctly (use Lightweight), I got exactly what I was expecting!
