I have two different volumes, a cube and a cylinder of two different materials. The cylinder is inside the cube. The cylinder and cube should act as a single volume upon loading. If I merge the two volumes in assembly module, then I can mesh the two volumes as one. But how do I apply two different material properties?

Thank you.

Select the cells for each material.

You may need to hide the Cube's cell. Also, when merging make sure you keep the boundaries. I typically assign materials before merging. I hope this helps.

The cube and cylinder are two different parts in the part module. After assembling the above volumes, do I have to partition the volumes and then merge? The material properties should be applied in the property module is that correct?I am somewhat not clear about the exact procedure.

Thank you.

Add material properties to the parts. Add both parts to the assembly. Instance>Merge/Cut (see image)

In this case the material of the cylinder was not retained so reassign it in the newly created part. I hope this helps.
