How do I switch views in Inventor 10

Hi everybody.
I've used SolidWorks for 2 years. I was offered a position in a company that uses Inventor 10, to start in 3 months, so I'm currently trying to cope with this traumatic change...hehehe

I'm quite annoyed because I can't find a way to switch views while modelling. The only command that seems to do this is the "Look at" which displays a normal view to one of the solid's faces. However, this is really poor and slow...is there a way to switch between standard views (left, right,...)?
How do I customize the keyboard to create shortcuts?

I hope you can make my life easier by answering this questions!

First suggestion: You gotta get a spaceball!

I'm not a keyboard guy at all (see first suggestion) but you should download the kwikviews addin from Kent's site
There are many other great add-ins there that you will love too. My favorite, kwiksert.

Since I'm not a keyboard guy, I have never tried to customize any of the keys, but I can tell you how to program the 12 spaceball buttons :)

Also go to and for enough information to make you a pro and LOTS of other great add-ins....and when all else fails, read the help.

There are some other converts around that will have some other good hints too.

I AGREE WITH MIKE got a spaceball at work and home.
Get one and all your viewing problems, (and about 40% less left clicks). Until then use the rotate button, click and drag, press spacebar to toggle to the common view options

Can't remember the page this on but there is a VBA called kwik views which will give you the front, right, top, etc... that you are looking for.
It's really funny (sad really) Autodesk has view buttons for this in Autocad, Mdesktop, and even the Inventor viewer, but for some reason they NEVER make it into Inventor.

I feel your pain...

Hi,
In the browser bar, under Representations, double-click on "none". This prevents you from overwriting an existing view. Use the rotate button and hit the spacebar. Select the arrow glyph that describes the view you want. Under the Model title of the browser bar is the Design View Representations window tool, click that. Enter the name of your new view, click new and then cancel (yes, that's weird). A new design view is made and the current representation is set to the new one. Once you build a set of views all you need to do it double click each one in the browser bar. If you want to apply these views to a number of assemblies in a larger assembly you can make them private. This creates a design view file which you can name and then copy, using the appropriate naming convention for each assembly. This will bring in the views you want but not the on/off state of parts.

This works, but as with AutoCAD, there's a routine to follow.

Good luck!
