Hi!,
I would like to know the relevant international standards to measure thermal power plant efficiency. Also please tell me any internet sites that contains relevant info on the subject.

Thanks,

Hi.

ASME performance test code 22 for gas turbines would be a place to start, and performance test code 6 & 6A for steam turbines. I believe they also have a power plant test code which may be just what you are looking for.

Simulation software, for example, GateCycle software from GE, may also be of use (although at some cost) for site accpetance testing. Their website may be useful.
Hope this helps.

For whole plant international test codes: ASME PTC 46 and ISO 2314. These apply to CCGT plants.

breeves is right about PTC46 being for the whole plant, always thought ISO2314 was for gas turbines only.

In my experience, most clients like to test individual major equipment just to set bench marks for future evaluation and most turnkey contractors prefer this approach also so they identify which subcontractors might not meeting their performance guarantees.

You may want to start a new thread with "How to Improve Condensing Turbine Condensor Performance" as title.

It's a big question. For starters, you may want to minimize steamside pressure in the condensor, to lower condensing temperature, to increase your detla-T and heat transfer rate. Vacuum system must be working well to keep non-condensible gases from accumulating in the system that can blanket and insulate tube walls... only then can condensation be "at its best" so a good vacuum is drawn.

Would need to know details to help .. like is it air cooled or water cooled.

Heat Exchange Institute has design standards and design software (for water cooled condensor) at reasonable cost that may be helpful .. design yor exchanger from scratch and compare it to what you are getting to see where problems lie? Delta-Hudson has an informative website for air cooled condensers.

Good luck.
