How do you define contact surfaces? Clevis-Pin

Hi,

I have a very simple clevis-pin-type model that I am trying to analyze. I'm pulling on the clevis.

How do define a contact interaction between the clevis and the pin?

I applied a load to the clevis and a BC to the pin. Am I underconstrained?

This seems like a simple problem that I just haven't been able to piece together. Any help is warmly welcome. (I might need the step-by-step version ... I'm a beginner in abaqus).

Many Thanks,
S

Try this procedure

In the Assembly Module, go to Surfaces and create two surfaces, one for the pin and the other for the Clevis. Select the area that will come in contact for each part when you define the respectie serface.

Go to Interaction Properties and create a new property defining the tangentail and normal behavior you want to have when the contact surfaces touch.

Go to Interactions and creat a new interaction. When prompted to select the contact regions, at the far right of the screen there will be a Surfaces button. Click that and select the surfaces you defined earlier. Depending on your model start with the Pin being the Master surface and the Clevis being the slave. Switch them if the results are not reasonable.

I would also suggest that you consult the the Tutorials mannual, the Interactive Edition, you will probably find a similar problem.

Good Luck

Thanks! I will give it a try.
