How do you estimate size of beam and column ?

I would like to know the method that I can Estimate proper size of beam and column before I start modelling. is there any sample for that ?

Gut level experience, but to get that, you have to run as few numbers a few times...

So, start with statics as WillisV said.

I use span/depth & height/width ratios - there are a few good books around with this information. my grad manual has a few starting points, but you will need to do more research and numbers to develop to a acceptable level. thread507-267373

code provide minimum depth of elements such as slabs,beams according to its span to avoid excessive deflection.
column, you can estimate load of column by area method without analysis and substitute in a very simple equation by loads and assuming reinforcement ratio,then you can get concrete area.
