Hello to everyone

I trying to introduce machining residual stresses in the final piece surface. I have read some article which said that they mapped the residual stresses with 3
discrete subsurface layers into all machined surface. I understand they employ boundary layer mesh in Abaqus in order to getting this layer.

But now I am trying to introduce stress value with SIGINI but I can not get it. It is the firts time I use the subroutine.
I think I have to use in SIGINI the LAYER OPTION in order to introduce stress value over the layer I have been defined in the mesh.
Any suggestions or advice?

Regards,

Ane

I share the boundary layer mesh image

Recommended for you

LAYER
Layer number (for composite shells and layered solids).

This layer option in the SIGINI is for material layer within an element, not for boundary layers made of elements.

You can use the integration point coordinates to know where the assignment routine currently is.

Thanks for your reply.

I would try to introduce the residual stress as you suggested and also I would try to introduce by noel.

Hello Mustaine,

First and foremost, thank for your suggestion. I can aplly tthe stress value over the surface. But now I am working with more difficult geometry and I have one problem with normal orientation. I do not know if you can help me.

I would like to introduce stress value over a irregular surface. My intention is that I would like to introduce stress by SIGINI subroutine.
My proble in that I would like to introduce in Z direction 200MPA and in Y 50MPa, but I do not know how can I do that in irregular surface the normal direction should be egual than regular surface. I mean in irregular surface I would like to change the normal orientation the Z to Z" and introduce that value.

Any suggestions.

Regards,

Ane
PD: I attach a photo in order to clarify my question.
