Often in gear tech literature the point is made that, in order to run properly, if at all, "a worm gear must use a hob that is slightly larger than the worm."
How much larger is large enough?
We had a worm gear made using a hob with a pitch diameter of 7.750".
The pitch diameter of the worm that will run against the gear is 7.25" .
thanks,
Dan T
