Hi evrybody,

i have a great problem, have some models in Catia V5R12, and they can not be opened in Catia V5R11. I become a massege, that the files are saved with a higher version of Catia. Can anybody help me? Please.

You can't open a Catia V5 R12 file in R11. The files are not backwards compatible.

If you want to take the catpart back to an earlier release use the Tool/Utilities/Downward Compatability. This will take a solid that is in a PartBody back to the specified release level as a dumb solid.

Hi,

Or save your files like .igs files and you will have surfaces of those solids (most of them).

Or you can export as .stp or STEP format and you get
dumb solid (without history tree) that can be
manipulated in other CAD softwer aswell.

Hi Everybody,
and thanks for your Help,
but the problemn is, that I need this histry tree.
Do you know how can i keep it?

Thanks: Ivo

Hi Vangle,
The Catback function in tools-utilities will resolve the history issue, since the solid retains all catia history (Currently I am using it to go back to r11 as well).

Dassault have done the nasty in r12 and made it incompatible with many 3rd party addons. My current customer is having to do a big reversal on all its models to r11 so that they remain compatible with their PLM system.

Hi Gary,

and thanks for your help.
The problem is, that I need the Assembly in R11, not only the solids.

Can man this problem solve, or it is unpossible?

Sorry I didn't get back sooner Ivo, I got tied up trying to fix my own Catia problems for the past few days.

Unfortunately, CatBack is only intended for parts (great I know!!), it was so bad for me that I decided to pull out of Catia all together for my last project and shift to an alternative CAD system to complete the design and then transfer the models back to catia for drafting. How big is the assy? is it heavily constrained?

If not heavily constrained and not too big you could try as previously mentioned, a step conversion of the assy, read it back into catia and then replace all the components with the proper CATParts from your storage environment. This will lose all your constraints!

Personal Gripe section
It makes me mad to know that a $20K program investment can be outperformed by a lowly MCAD program ($2K)! Oh well its the managers who buy software and us mere mortals who have to figure out what planet they made their decision on!

Thanks Everybody,

I've already solved the Problem:
the model ins .stp konverting, than i've opened it in R10,
and i've saved as Catmodel. Than i have a list af all parts, as .Catpart files too, but the parts are as dumb solids, the constraints, aren't visble too. But i think this is the best, what can be maked.

I am also having the same trouble as vangle.

I can take V5 R11 models back into V5 R10 as a dummy solid using catback in the utility menu but I cannot get the history to go back as well.

If anyone could please tell me the correct procedure to use in order to retain the history it would be much appreciated.

Hi Degs,

I've didn't found anything better than STP Format. You can make so: Save As your Modell as STP (STP 214 from Options Compability), and than you can open the file in R10. Here save Your modell as CATProduct and you have the all 'files ot the Parts and the Tree with the Parst in th Model, without the constraints and the Parts are as dummie Solids,
but is better than nothing
