ACI 318-19 CLAUSE 9.5.4.3 reads:
Longitudinal and transverse reinforcement required for torsion shall be added to that required for the Vu, Mu, and Pu that act in combination with the torsion.
Also in commentary it says to add longitudinal torsional reinforcement to longitudinal flexural reinforcement in beams. Here I am talking about longitudinal torsion only.
My question is do I have to add the whole amount of torsional reinforcement to the flexural? I mean both top and bottom.
For example:
As required flexural (bottom)= 0.9 in.sq
As required flexural (top)= 0.7 in.sq
As required long. Torsional= 0.8 in.sq
Should I provide 0.9+0.8=1.7 in.sq in bottom and,
0.7+0.8= 1.5 in.sq in top?
Or is there anything I am missing?
Also, are side bars required for torsion? If yes, What is the criteria?
