hello
am working on a standard 20 x 40 timber two-story. just need a general approach solution for where to put my shear walls on the right hand lower corner of the sketch. I re-drew the actual floor plan very simply for simplification purposes only. in the first pic (the pencil only one) i show the exterior wall line of the entire second floor. the purple hatch in the front is a balcony and below a porch of course. the side hatch is where the stairs will go. On the second pic, the one with blue highlight, the highlight shows the ext wall line of the first floor. as can be seen some walls match below and on top. so that's okay. I know what to do there. but in the lower right hand corner there's a portion 3'-6" of wall on the second floor that have nothing below other than beams to support them so I dont know if I should even put a shear wall there. because i assume that small area still needs to be taken account for seismic. where the bubble is, on the first floor there is only 3 ft of wall to put a shear wall too. the rest of the blue line is where a sliding will go. therefore i am also debating whether to put something there too for that line. i tried looking up the irregularities section of ASCE but its a bit vague. So if anyone has a practical way to look at this it would be real helpful. Thanks
