how to automate/semi automate : guiding a thread through a hole in a plastic part

Hello everyone,

I have a challenging task which involves developing a new production process where we are required to guide a thread through a hole in a plastc part and from the other side we have to secure the thread by means of a knot of the thread or joining with a plastic part so that the thread does not return through the hole.
The thread is part of a manual emergency switch of an actuator mechanism which is required when the actuator fail to function automatically.
I am looking forward to hearing interesting ideas from experts out here.

Sometimes a puff of air is all it takes.

Failing that, a 'needle threader', usually comprising a diamond shaped loop of music wire, is pushed through the eye of a needle, opens itself to form an aperture large enough to stuff the thread through, then the loop is withdrawn and drags the thread with it.

Mike's approach is VERY reliable; I use a needle threader to thread needles whenever I need to do sewing.

I have to test it though. The hole diameter is 1 mm which makes it challenging.

1 mm, that is a huge eyelet for a sewing needle. Check-out your local sewing supply or Walmart. These threading tools cost about a dollar.

Yesh, Walmart is absurdly expensive. You can buy 50 of them on eBay for under a buck:
