possibly a silly question: With the media being Heat Transfer Oil - Therminol 66 - why would an MAWP of 285 psi be required? Typically, the pumps used to move HTO around produce 40-60 psig on a good day. You are looking at material 5x thicker than what 60 psi requires.

Dear Friends,

Sorry for my insufficient information.
I would like to know how to calculate Half bottom cylinder and flat plate.
Can I use UG-27 Cylindrical shell formula for bottom half cylinder.
and how to calculate flat plate?

Please guide.

Thanks,

I used to work for a firm that designed vessels fairly similar to this. A few design recommendations: have 3 separate jackets that can be connected with plumbing. One that will be annular for the bottom and then two flat jackets. We also did the stayed construction for our jackets. It's all in there, but the code isn't clear on accounting for inherent strength of the curves, so you end up doing the same amount of stays as a flat section, at least that's what we had to agree on with our AI an AIA to proceed with some of our designs.
