Hi all,
I am trying to build a solid model for a steel rack which is curved and used for aerospace applications. As a beginner I would like to know how I can choose an optimal element size for this component?
Its not a special question to most of the stress engineer but everyone will start thinking about it when we are realy in such a new situations I guess!!

cheers

as big as you want, and as small as you need !

without knowing the structure you're analyzing it's hard to make sensible suggestions. but typically you can apply a mesh to the part, get some results, then
1) remesh the part (say 1/2 the mesh size) and see if the results change significantly
2) look for large stress gradients, and locally refine the mesh.
