Info on how to proceed with certification:

To purchase the standard:

However, the ASME certification test (as of now, at least) is still testing according to the 1994 edition of Y14.5.

Hi CATchecker,

Are you planning for Technologist Level or Senior level certification? I am begginer and preparing for Technologist level.

The best start is to get some good training. If you look through the threads you can find a number of us are reputable and regarded trainers. Not selling the services, but emphasizing that there are a lot of subtleties that an experienced Senior-Level Certifed instructor can get across that you'll never get just by reading the standard. Some suppliers also provide training on how to study for the exam; this method is also available in the Y14.5.2 document which outlines the body of knowledge needed for the Cert exam.

ASME does have a study guide or similar too. I have a copy, but sadly haven't done much with it, really should but my role at work keeps changing.

That would be Y14.5.2, Kenat. It is a good study guide as it outlines the body of knowledge needed. It's not the easiest to follow as I recall. A good prep course helps you to understand the question format/wording that can be expected; it's a critical aspect of understanding the content and the testing.

ASME sells a study guide by Nickolaisen. Maybe that's what Kenat refers to.... it is a pretty good aid for either version of the GDTP test.

Yep, "STUDY GUIDE for Certification of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Professionals (GDTP)" Robert H. Nickolaisen.

Of course, as someone involved in selling training it's in your interest not to know about it;-).
