how to handle coiled tubing in assembly

I have tubing that I have modeled as a long, straight tube. Is there a way to easily coil that for an assembly? Using a configuration comes to mind, but like sheet metal, I was wondering if there were an easy way to call something a "flexible tube" and wrap it around a hub of a known diameter.

Thanks,
Matt

You might be able to use the Flex command to create a representation of a coil. (I've never tried ... but will).

Probably the simplest way is to make a separate model using a Sweep along a Helix. You could make a config within the existing straight tube part and do the same thing. One config suppressing the straight and another suppressing the coil.

Flex seems to do a pretty good job. I can't figure out how to get it to coil automatically, but this should be sufficient for my immediate needs.

Try playing around with the Sweep command. If you select the 'twist along path' option it will prompt you for a number of turns, or degrees of twist. You may have to do your tube as a solid diameter, then shell it to the desired wall thickness, but this may fit your needs.

You can't Coil your solid without something like the flex command. If you use a sweep its going to always be a sweep. You will not be able to unroll it. Its either or... not both like it is with sheet metal. you can make a config, but you will have to suppress the straight length and make a new sweep feature. Then use which config. in your assembly

I stand corrected. I had not caught on to the fact that he needed to show it in a non-coiled state also.
