how to increase tensile strength and elongation of C92600

Hii,

As you all know C92600 contains the following composition, but this composition isnt giveing us the desired mechanical properties. Can some tell which alloy elements would influence values of tensile strength and elongation?
Cu:86.0-88.5 Al:0.005 Sb: .25 Fe:0.20 Pb:0.8-1.5 Ni: 0.7 P: 0.03 Si:0.005 S:.05 Sn: 9.3-10.5 Zn:1.3-2.5

The most significant contributors to strength in Cu are Al, Zn, and maybe Sn. However, merely making small changes to this composition is not going to rectify your problem of low mechanical properties. Do you understand how your parts are being manufactured? This alloy is typically supplied as continuous cast bar that is subsequently machined. This means that there is no opportunity for improving the strength by rolling, drawing, etc. If you need to improve the strength then you need to understand the entire processing history and specify a material and manufacturing process that are appropriate. Feel free to share some details and we can offer some suggestions for improving the mechanical properties.

As you rightly said, our component is an pump Impeller which sand cast and is then machined. We did a test for mechanical properties and the tensile strenght and elongation were lower compared to the standard properties given for C92600. So we were wondering if we can the alter composition slightly(within the limits)and improve the properties.

The properties may have been lower because of casting defects in the test samples? How far below minimum were the test results?

It looks like you gave us the spec. limits for 92600 alloy, do you have a chemical analysis for the heat of material you tested?

@metengr: The values in mechanical properties are down by atleast 15 to 20%. I dont have the exact values with me at present.

The Chemical analysis of the sample showed
Cu:86.9 Al:0.003 Sb: 0.21 Fe:0.15 Pb:0.98
Ni: 0.5 P: 0.03 Sn: 9.98 Zn:2.05

At present we are also trying to find out if there are impurities that are causing the problem.
we have tried 4 samples so far and have found that increasing % of Ni improves the elongation.
