I'm a beginner in V5 can any one show me how to model a mouse please. What workbench should I use.I used solidwork before and quite familar with it but not in catia V5.I don't know how to build spline or curve in 3d or manipulate its vertex. My boss tell me to design a optical mouse with catia please give me some advice.I think I should begin with 3d-curves and sweep it then use trim tools but the problem is I can not construct good curve as I want .Please help me out.

Hi,

you said : "I don't know how to build spline or curve in 3d or manipulate its vertex. My boss tell me to design a optical mouse with catia please give me some advice..."

Tell your boss to provide you with some training. He spent $$$$$ for CATIA he should consider spending $$ for using it ! He will quickly get R.O.I. as you will be able to work faster in a smarter way. It might takes you months before you find out some good way of working with V5 alone!

you should work in Wire frame and surface design module...

That may be right but You know that I can't bc I've just employed and I'm trying to impress him.I think I can fig it out if I know how to draw a 3D curve that can be manipulated in 3d space bc I've tried to draw 3d curve but I can't move its vertex or adjust it in 3d space.every curve that I've tried can only move in its own plane.

Thank god I've found the way to create and manipulate 3d curve in free style. Can I constrain these curves??I can not seam my surface to its symetry part to have a nice smooth surface.

Are you trying to say that you can't ask your boss for training, because you're one of those guys who lied about your Catia experience, to get the job and the On Job Training?

I can't think of a good reason NOT to ask for Catia training. Any decent employer should know that it goes with the territory. Half of the jobs that I've worked FORCED me to take the Catia core training, even though I've got tens of thousands of hours of experience.

I'm confused as to how you think you're going to impress your boss with the complete lack of knowledge that you obviously have. That's a completely new concept to me.

I would like to work for any company which FORCE the employee to be trained, of course they should pay for the training program and pay you the hour that you spend on the training...... You are a lucky guy, I have to pay a BIG $$ for the training on my OWN no pay hourssss.

Maybe I am lucky... (depends on who you work for, and what you call "lucky") But being forced to take the training was actually the LESSER point. It doesn't diminish the fact that this person should clearly ASK for the training, instead of trying to impress people with knowledge that he/she doesn't have.

I would rather appear foolish for asking for training, than to attempt to do the work without it, and remove all doubts. Obviously, if the person who posted has given false impressions to his/her employer, the situation is a losing proposition in any event.

Sorry to hear about your situation, Johnny. If you worked for me, I'd gladly provide you with the training. Of course, I'd make you sign a tenure contract, to ensure ROI... :)
