1)How can I model a simple oneway slab in ETABS?
2) I have long spans in my slab and I should use truss or steel joist under the slab how can I model my slab in ETABS?

first go to the define wall/slab section

then go to the slab

theres a box there that you can pick if you want a one way slab

and you can orient it too

try to have a manual and you will see different ways on making slab

I would use a membrane element (no out of plane stiffness). This will force all the load to be transferred to the supporting element.

I have not had much success with using one way distribution of shell element forces, especially if it is non-rectangular.

 

yes, dont forget to choose the membrane box in the program if you are modeling the slabs


but of course, before using the resulting forces, try to provide a manual rough calculations so that you will know if the program is doing what you want it to do....garbage in garbage out
