Dear all,
I'm doing a linear static analysis of a 2d steel frame structure in order to get a displacement of the top joints due to lateral loads.

I want to model the uplifting of the column in this case to only allow the column to go up and not down. What I meant is that the support will only work under the compression and not under the tension ( free to uplift), it is like the phenomena of the rocking frame Picture one), the frame will be free to uplift (Tension) and not going down due to the soil resistance ( Where the soil will work as compression resistance).

I tried to model this support as a Gap link element ( Compression-Only ) with very high stiffness ( as is attached in the first picture), but unfortunately, it didn't work because as we can see the drop of the support which gives a negative displacement where it is not the case in the real case because the soil should resist the compression force, therefore, no displacement will be.

Is That due to the Gap element link feature that only works in the nonlinear and not in the linear static? please give me any suggestions for this issue.

Thank you,
