Hi,
I would like to know the best way to model Braided hose in Abaqus.Hose consist of rubber with steel braid wrap.Internal pressure is acting on this hose.Is there any way to Calculate the stiffness of this Braided hose?Any method to do FE modelling will be highly helpful.

Regards,

Sreejm,

It depends on the resolution that you need for the simulation.

1. Beam/Truss elements with appropriate section properties.
2. Solid/Shell elements. Model the rubber as solid elements and skin them with shells for the wire braid.
3. Hopefully you will not need to model the actual weave pattern. If you do solid elements for the rubber and beam/truss elements for the wire.

I hope this helps.

Rob,

Thank you for the replay.
My understanding is that the primary function of braided metal is to prevent axial extension of the bellows due to pressure load.Hoop stresses also will be there. So I am searching the following things:
1. Some kind of connector that satisfies my needs.
2. Model it as Anisotropic material to capture these features. but material constants are not available.

Can you shed light in this direction?

Rob,

Thank you for the guidance.Right now i don't have any test data.
