How to prepare a geometry for mesh 1

Hi to everyone,

I have to mesh a geometry and, before this, I want to "clean" my CAD model from things like words etc., in order to make easier to mesh it.

I have attached an image of my model in which there is a surface I want to delete and I wonder if an efficient method (that is not time-consuming) exists for deleting it.

Can anyone help me?

You should be able to use the "delete face" command on the text. It may also work on the surface you point out in the pic, but it appears to be a molded in texture? In which case you probably have 100's of small faces to pick. The 'face finder' tool may be helpful, but I'd suggest making a block to fill in the rectangular area. Use the "replace face" command to match the smooth surface on top (and behind) then unite the block to fill in, and effectively remove, the textured surface.

- You can select "by rectangle" in the Delete face command. Turn OFF the preview before selecting , then drag the rectangle , then de-select faces on the backside that should remain.
( With Preview on you will have to wait for NX to compute the preview)

Or just create a 'block' (can be an extruded profile) large enough so that if you were to Unite it with the part all of the detail that you wish to remove would be contained inside the volume of the part added. So after uniting the 'block', simply 'delete' the 5 faces of this new feature. This will even work if your part is thin-walled and the 'block' protrudes through the model. You simply perform TWO 'Delete Face' operations one for each side of your model.

If you let me know what version of NX that you're running I'll provide an example showing how this is done.

Thank you all for your quick replies!

There is a problem when selecting manually the surfaces I want to delete, and it is represented by the fact that once I select the top surfaces,either one to one or with a rectangular selector, some "down surfaces" are automatically selected too. Such a problem is highlighted in the images I have attached.

How can I deselect the surfaces I do no want to delete?

Anyway I solved the problem with the suggestion of JohnRBaker.

P.S. I am running the version 9.
