Hi all,

I am back with another hot oil question...

I am looking for a pump that can handle the following:

1. Up to 200°C (could be a little flexible on this)
2. 2800-3000 psi output pressure
3. 3.0 gpm @ 1750 rpm
4. Ideally be able to run off a 5 hp motor @ 1750 rpm
5. Be able to pump from 1-250 ish cP viscosity oil.

Do you guys have any suggestions? Anyone I should be talking to? I know that combination of these requirements is what is making this very difficult, but any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Leo

I suggest you move your laboratory to an isolated location, where your neighbors need not be concerned about the odd explosion and/or major fire.

5hp may be cutting it close with if you absolutely need 3gpm. Almost all pumps will loose a little flow due to internal leakage and hot thin oil will exacerbate the problem. If we assume a 5% pumping loss:

3.15 gpm @ 2800 psi = 5.15 hp
3.15 gpm @ 3000 psi = 5.5 hp

pump needs to be 6.49 cc/rev

Wouldn't a chemical injection pump work under those conditions. I know some are made pretty tough. I recently had to do a NACE job where we had to go with those types of pumps.
