Hi,

The old function "spline through points" will be retired

But how to find in NX11 the similar option "Points from file"

Thanks in advance

Per the command finder, "Studio Spline is the preferred command"

One reason that I think "spline through points" is still around is that, to the best of my knowledge, there is no direct replacement for it. In years past, the "spline through points" function was the preferred way to import points from a file; we'd create the spline through points, which would also create point objects, then delete the resulting spline and keep the points. If you are only looking to import coordinate data and create point objects, that is now handled by the import -> points from file command.

If you do need to create a spline through the given points, you could try to import the points from file then fit a spline to the points; but it has to infer the order of the points (since it doesn't have access to the order in the input file any longer) and the shape may not follow the order you want. You could, of course, use the studio spline command and pick points one by one in order, but that can be a tedious task.

The following thread has a grip program (by JohnRBaker) and an NXOpen routine (by BubbaK) that might help to replace the "spline through points from file" functionality should we ever lose it completely. The spline through points from file function has been on the "to be retired" list for a number of years now (5 or so?); I don't think it is going anywhere for the next few versions, at least.

File-> Import-> Points from File

I think Cowski is almost correct here... :)
The old spline through points + points from file did not create points and it did not infer the order.
the order was set in the dialog seen above.
points, - if one wanted to import a point set, the trick was to use this spline method, and then create a point set -spline defining points and finally delete the spline.

The "new method" * is to do the import points from file and use fit curve, as mentioned.
* Points from file was a new feature quite a few years ago by now.
Fitting a curve using Degree and tolerance , degree 3 and a tolerance value = modeling distance tolerance should be equal to the old method.

Mr Besserwisser, Tomas.

I forgot that you had to create a point set from the spline defining points before deleting the spline. However, I think we may be saying the same thing regarding the order. In the old command, the spline would pass through the points in the same order that they appeared in the input file. Nowadays, if you import points then perform a fit spline, the spline may not fit to the points in the order that you intend. See pilina's response in thread561-355974

Sorry Cowski, when you said "order", i thought "degree".
Some systems, Alias ? and I think that Imageware did, use the word order instead of degrees.
Math is not my specialty.
so yes, "that order of point selection issue is there".

Excuses.
